the Art of Joomla - Editorial

Welcome to our first issue

Written by Andrew Eddie

Welcome to inaugural issue of "the Art of Joomla!" - an online magazine designed to fill the gap that exists for quality information about the ever almost-ready version 1.5.

If you didn't know already, Joomla! is an intensely popular Content Management System used by millions of web sites around the world. But popular as it is, there is a lot to learn if you want to get the most out of your Joomla!-driven website, not to mention the fact that the new version 1.5 brings with it a host of new capabilities, and caveats. So with this site we aim to bring developers, designers and end-users practical articles on how to use and extend Joomla!. These will be brought to you magazine style by some of the people that actually build the code, as well as other people that know how to persuade Joomla! to do exactly what they want.

We will be looking predominantly at Joomla! 1.5 because of it's new features that make it easier to use and much more powerful to extend than Joomla! or even any version of Mambo currently out (we might even touch on some of that history some day too).

In this issue we will start to look at some of the changes in the file system of 1.5, have a look at the new Menu Item option called the "Menu Alias" and also begin a series that should be helpful to weening developers off the need to turn on "legacy mode" to allow their extensions to run.

Also attached to this site is what we call our "Artisans Directory". This is simple a listing directory for anyone who thinks they can do cool stuff with Joomla! whether you are a training, developer, graphic designer or even have hosting facilities that cater for Joomla!.

I hope you enjoy this site and this first issue of the Art of Joomla as we bring you new and practical information and news month by month.

  1. RokZine is a fantastic addition to Joomla 1.5. Sorely needed and well-overdue, but FREE is sometimes a painful product because of the anticipation. I look forward reviewing and using Rokzine.
