Managing Chart Records in Quanta

Records in Quanta are the entities that you are measuring or monitoring.  For example, if you own several cars, you might create a record for each car and probably create a related category in which to place them.  If you want to downloads from a web site, you could create a record for each of the web sites you are monitoring.

Quanta is currently geared to be able to store historic values for individual records.

Records List

Select Components ->Quanta from the Joomla Administrator Menubar.

Select Records from the Sub-menu.  This will show you a list of the records you have defined for use in the Quanta component.

Click on any of the linked column headings to sort by that column.

Click the linked title to edit the record.  The alias of the record is shown under the title in brackets.  Beside the title is a colour swatch which is the colour that you have selected to represent the record.

Click the icon in the published column to toggle the published state to either published or unpublished.

The following Toolbar actions are available:

  • Publish - Published the selected records in the list.
  • Unpublished - Unpublished the selected records in the list.
  • Trash - Send the selected records in the list to the trash.
  • Delete - Permanently delete the selected records. Note that this only displays when the Published State filter is set to Trash.
  • Edit - Edit the selected record in the list.
  • New - Create a new record.

The following list filters are available:

  • Search - This filter allows you to search for a string or a sub-string in the record name or alias.
  • Published State - This filter allows you to display various published states.  The default setting shows published and unpublished categories.

Create a New Record

To create a new record, click the New icon in the Toolbar of the records list.

The following Toolbar actions are available:

  • Save and New - This button allows you to save the current record and then create a new one without having to go back to the records list.
  • Save - Allows you to save the record and returns you to the records list.
  • Apply - Allows you to save the records and returns you to the edit screen of that record.
  • Cancel - Returns you to the records list without saving.

Enter data in the following fields:

  • Title - This is the title for the record.
  • Alias - This is like the title but is displaying in the URL when SEF URL's are in use. The alias is automatically created for you if you type in the title and then tab out of the input field.
  • Chart Label - This is a short label to be used in the chart axis (usually the x-axis) or legend.
  • Category - Select the category from the list that you want to assign this record to.  Some of the site component and modules allow you to group record results together by category depending on the type of chart you are displaying (pie chart is a good example).
  • Description - This is supporting text that can displayed (depending on option settings) when a record is being displayed by the frontend component or a module.
  • Published - This is the published state of the record.
  • Maximum Value - This is an optional maximum value that relates to what you are measuring.  For example, a rain water tank will have a maximum volume if you were wanting to track the level of water in it over time.

In addition, the following options are able to be set for the record:

  • Line Colour - This is the colour that will be used to represent the record in any of the charts.  Click the

Edit an Existing Record

To edit an existing record, click the linked title of the record name in the list.

In addition to the fields outlined above, the following read-only fields are also displayed:

  • Created time - This is the time that the record was created.
  • Modified time - This will show the time the record was last modified, if applicable, since it was created.
  • Latest Value - If a historic value has been entered for the record, this will show the latest value.
  • Latest Time - If a historic value has been entered for the record, this will show the date of the latest value.
