Creating a split menu between two modules, like a top menu module and a side menu module, in Joomla is really easy to do if you know the tricks. The following tutorial shows you how to do it in a few easy steps.

This technique works equally well in Joomla 1.5, Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3. The screens from Joomla 3 are shown in the tutorial. You will need to consult the documentation for your template to work out the best positions to use for the "top" menu module and the "side" menu module.
